What's up with the Boot Camp Demo?
Hello There friends! It's been awhile.
I'd like to start off with an apology for not posting any updates on the game as I should have been, but I assure you, that I've been putting my time away to great use. In this update, I will be answering some questions that mighy have crossed your mind when finding out about the boot camp demo. Let's get started shall we?
Where have I been?
Good question friend. As much as I love this game and I want to see it grow like a child, I still have real life obligations to attend to. I started my first year of college almost 2 months ago so that has been taking up a good portion of my time, however there hasn't been a day since my last update where I haven't thought about TTO. In fact, I came up with the idea for The boot camp demo about 2 months ago and have since been ever so vigorously storyboarding, planning, and whatnot about how I wanted to make this play out and I feel that what I have planned for this demo is really gonna rock.
Where's Chapter 0?
Another great question. If you were excited for chapter 0, I'm sure you'll be relieved to find out that chapter 0 is going nowhere and will be released after the boot camp demo is out. It's no secret at this point that the progress of the game has been pushed back an entire year, despite me saying that Chapter 0 would release this summer. I apologize for not living up to my promises about the release of chapter 0, but I want it to be as good and captivating to its audience as can be. And I feel that I just couldn't get to the level of quality that I wanted it to go to with Unity. It's a great engine, but it just didn't hit that sweet spot with this game. So, natually, I got rid of it and went to find a new engine to make TTO in. And I believe my best bet for this is Game Maker Studio 2 (fitting because games like Undertale were made using this engine). I had already some distance from the beginning of the game made in unity so scrapping it all and starting from scratch would most likely take awhile especially since I needed to learn a new engine in the process of doing that. So in order to tide the eager potential fans over until this pie is out the oven, I made the decision to construct an new story in the same story, at the same time as the original story, so that you can become affiliated with the setting prior to the story's official beginning. This is also a test to see what people do and do not like about TTO so that I can hit the ground running once the official story starts.
What will be in the boot camp demo?
I think I gave a pretty good explanation of the story itself in the games description, so I'll keep this brief. There's 3 main characters: Jackie, the lead main character is friendly, intelligent, and determined. She wants to do well in the boot camp so she can become an enforcer (Toast cop). There's Rookie. He's got amnesia but he was picked by the academy to become a student because some soldiers saw that he was decent at defending himself while wandering around aimlessly in No-Man's Land (A war-torn wasteland filled to the brim with bandits, poverty, and Molded). And finally there's Doughglas. He's an innocent little doughball and is considered a "child prodigy" by those around him. He serves as the group's healer and he dreams that one day, the world will see him as more than a smart child and respect him for his military prowess. These 3 get thrown together by chance and eventually must qorth together to uncover their destinies. Whatever that means. This game isn't exactly a demo per se. You're more than welcome to consider it canon and a chapter of its own and you wouldn't be wrong, but just know, the majority of the demo won't have an effect on the main story (or will it?)
Will the boot camp demo really release in 2020?
...yes?
